James Cameron - Linda Hamilton(HMG) – Avatar director James Cameron who is working on his 5th marriage recently received some disparaging and encouraging words from his fourth ex-wife.   Actress Linda Hamilton, 53, started dating Cameron in the early 1990s when he directed her in the first two ‘Terminator’ films. They had a daughter in 1993 and was awarded a $50million divorce settlement in 1999 after a stormy two-year marriage.  She tells the UK Sun, her failed marriage wasn’t so much due to the current wife who he had an affair with while married to Hamilton but because Cameron’s only committed relationship is to his work.

“Titanic was the mistress he left me for,” Hamilton told UK’s Daily Sun. “He was the kind of man who really would rather be at work with the mistress than at home with the wife. That was hard to come to terms with.”

While filming ‘Titanic’ in 1997, Cameron took up with Suzy Amis, who had a small part in the movie.  He came back to Hamilton, but ultimately left her later for Amis. It’s another of those comes around, goes around situations.  Cameron cast Hamilton as Sarah Connor in his 1984 classic The Terminator. The pair took their mutual attraction to the next level in 1991 – on the set of sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day, while Cameron was still married to director Kathryn Bigelow, whose movie The Hurt Locker is going head-to-head with Avatar at this year’s Academy Awards – both films picking up nine nods each.

Cameron and Amis are still married and Hamilton says “He’s changed a lot in the last 12 years, since Titanic. Christmas dinner with the Cameron family would involve everyone talking about their ‘experience’ of Titanic – instead of just getting together and being a family.

“This Christmas we were all together and it was really great to see, 12 years later – with a film just as successful – Jim just being daddy to all the children and acting very charming.

“He didn’t have to say Avatar, Avatar, Avatar, Avatar. I think at this point he’s earned it – and he can leave it at that. He’s grown up.”
